War Veteran and father to Elizabeth Austin. Elizabeth was married to Daniel Shipman, one of their sons, Wilson Shipman (married to Mary Jane Pickens) were the parents of Sarah Mahala Shipman. Sarah Mahala was the mother of my great grandfather, Walter Montgomery Shipman.

Notes from census research:
In 1830 the West TN census - Wayne county, Daniel Shipman is enumerated with 7 sons and 4 daughters. There is also an elderly male (age 70-80) who is Stephen Austin, Rev. War vet. and father of Elizabeth, Daniel's wife. By the 1840 census Stephen Austin is living with his son, Sanders Austin.

In the 1840 census of Hardin County Wilson was too young to be listed as head of his own household. In the house of Elizabeth Shipman (widow living next to her brother, John Austin ) there are 6 males and 2 females (beside herself) - 1 male (age 5-10), 1 male (age 10-15), 2 males (age 15-20), 2 males (age 20-30). The males were probably Moses, Stephen, James, Wilson born circa 1825 in Wayne county TN, Aaron and John M. Shipman.
