This page traces the ancestry of my mother's paternal grandmother, Penelope Hightower Stockton. Penelope was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Stockton and Susan Hall and was born in Itawamba County, Mississippi. Penelope married Walter Shipman in 1895 in Hardin County, TN. To follow this family line back to Richard Stockton ca. 1640 in New Jersey click on the underlined link and follow it down the page. This Richard Stockton was the grandfather of Richard Stockton, who signed the Declaration of Independence as a Representative from New Jersey.
Most of the information is based on the work of THE STOCKTON PROJECT, by Pam Jeglinski; FEB 2000. I did the research on the Andrew Jackson Stockton (my leaf on this tree) family with census records from Itawamba County, Mississippi, Franklin County, Alabama and Hardin County, Tennesse in the time period from 1840 - 1910.
