Penelope Stockton's great great great grandfather was Joseph
Stockton (b. 1697)..He was the brother of John Stockton (b. 1701)...John's
oldest son was Richard Stockton (below)..Richard Stockton was
a member of the Continental Congress and one of the signers of
the Declaration of Independence. He is buried in the Quaker Cemetery
in Ohio...Died in Princeton, New Jersey. During the war he was
arrested by the British and thrown in jail in New York for one
month. Apparently he was treated very inhumanely and never recovered
from the time in jail. The British also burned his library at
his house (Morven) in Princeton, New Jersey.
